About Me
I'm a 36 year-old web developer who spends most of his life on the Internet. In the daytime I build websites for various companies in my guise as half of Shiny Ideas. In the evenings I chat on IRC and IM, hang out on social networking sites, and contribute to various open-source software projects.
At the weekends I sometimes try to make up for my deskbound lifestyle by going to the park to juggle, spin staff and poi, and hang out with my friends. I read a lot, and occasionally I jump in a vertical wind-tunnel and fly.
Projects
These are some of the projects I'm currently working on.
- Police State UK - a website publishing user-submitted articles about politics, policing, and civil liberties. I host the site, helped to build it, and write articles for it when I can find time. I also wrote the original version of the CMS that it runs on (YAWNS), although it's been greatly improved by its current maintainer.
- freenode - the largest IRC network for users and developers of free and open-source software. I've been a member of the network staff team since 2005.
- Perl is Alive - a website publishing user-submitted articles about the Perl programming language. Also runs on YAWNS, and I write for it whenever I spot suitable stories. Built on company time and hosted by my previous employer as a service to the Perl community.
- Dreamwidth - a journalling website run on open-source code (a fork of the LiveJournal codebase). I've contributed mostly in the form of ideas, testing and discussion so far, as I've not found the time to write any useful code for them yet.
